"No Church Left Behind:

Leading with Love, Compassion and Integrity"

"Like our namesake, the Potomac River, the Church is not defined by where it has been, but by the faithfulness with which it continues to flow—guided always by the unseen hand of God, toward a purpose that is as boundless as the waters themselves."

Rev. Dr. Vanetta L. Brice, Presiding Elder, Potomac District

Beloved clergy and laity of the Potomac District, it is with deep humility, holy reverence, and a heart full of gratitude to God that I greet you as your newly appointed Presiding Elder. I give honor to our rich heritage within the African Methodist Episcopal Church, founded upon faith, courage, and a steadfast commitment to justice and holiness by our forebears, including Bishop Richard Allen and Mother Sarah Allen.

I come before you not as one who has already attained, but as one who is committed to walking alongside you—pastors, officers, and members alike—as we labor together in God’s vineyard. The Potomac District has a powerful legacy of ministry, witness, and community impact, and I am honored to join you in continuing that sacred work.

As we move forward together, I invite us to embrace a shared vision grounded in love, unity, and purpose. Let us recommit ourselves to the call of Christ—to preach the Gospel, to care for the least among us, and to strengthen the body of believers. In a world that is often divided, we are called to be a light—shining with compassion, integrity, and unwavering faith.

To our clergy: thank you for your faithful service, your sacrifice, and your steadfast leadership. Your labor is not in vain. Continue to shepherd God’s people with wisdom, courage, and grace. To our laity: you are the heartbeat of the Church. Your dedication, your gifts, and your willingness to serve are vital to the life and mission of every congregation. Together, we are stronger. Let us be guided by the powerful charge: “No Church Left Behind: Leading with Love, Compassion, and Integrity.” May this not simply be a theme, but a living testimony of how we serve one another and our communities.

I ask for your prayers as I undertake this sacred assignment, and I pledge my prayers for each of you. Let us walk together in faith, trusting that God—who has begun a good work in us—will be faithful to complete it.

Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us—may He receive glory in the Church, now and forevermore.

Yours in Christ’s service,

Rev. Dr. Vanetta L. Brice
Presiding Elder, Potomac District
Washington Annual Conference
